about us

The mission of Hangartfest Association is to promote the culture of contemporary dance and performing arts in its territory. In 2004, the homonymous contemporary dance festival Hangartfest was founded and directed by Antonio Cioffi, now supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Marche Region and the Municipality of Pesaro. In 2018 Hangartfest was awarded the prestigious European Year of Cultural Heritage recognition promoted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

Hangartfest takes place annually (September) and aims to spread contemporary dance as a language and field of research by addressing independent performers and choreographers from all over the world. It welcomes artists and companies in residence and is engaged in co-production projects. It is a member of the Consorzio Marche Spettacolo and co-founder of Giacimenti, a national network for the emergence of young talent.

The festival takes place at Teatro Maddalena, a 99-seat structure located in the former Church of Santa Maria Maddalena (Vanvitelli, 1749), as well as in squares, courtyards, galleries, museums and Renaissance villas belonging to the city's artistic cultural heritage.

Hangartfest engages in public awareness programs by providing viewers with critical reading tools and encouraging them to witness creative processes. It also welcomes interns, undergraduates and students from local universities and high schools.

In 2020, the Association initiated Videobox video dance festival, which integrates a section focusing on new technologies, immersive experiences, virtual reality and 360 visions, with the aim of fostering the dissemination of contemporary languages. Finally, with the Interfaccia Digitale Award, it supports the production of new video works.
